About Kerry Greenwood

Kerry Greenwood is an Australian author, solicitor, and advocate who created the Phryne Fisher mystery series. Born in 1954 in Melbourne, Greenwood has written over fifty books, but Phryne Fisher is her most famous creation and has become a cultural icon in Australia and internationally.

Greenwood's research into 1920s Melbourne is meticulous and passionate. She has said that she chose the era because it was a time of tremendous change — women were gaining independence, jazz was transforming culture, and the aftermath of World War I was reshaping society. Phryne Fisher embodies all of these changes: she is independent, adventurous, and determined to live life on her own terms.

The TV adaptation, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (2012–2015), was a global success, introducing Phryne to audiences who then discovered the books. The show's visual style — Art Deco settings, stunning 1920s fashion, and Essie Davis's charismatic performance — captured the spirit of Greenwood's books beautifully. Greenwood has continued writing Phryne Fisher novels alongside her other work, which includes the Corinna Chapman bakery mystery series.
